Adoration of Christ April

A few months back, I was reading an article I very much appreciated by Kevin DeYoung. In that article he mentioned that a certain blogger’s annual month-long tradition of writing about “a whole host of hot button issues” is a time which “does not give us a month of posts on the loveliness of Christ, or the power of prayer, or the finer points of Reformed soteriology, or the wonders of the cross, or the total trustworthiness of the Bible, or the holiness of God, or the glorious intricacies of trinitarian theology.”

I really like the sound of the latter sorts of posts.

Now, I’m not promising my blogging will succeed in all those ways. It’s a tall order. But, over the past 6 months or so, I have been thinking that spending a month trying is a worthy goal. I want to blog to the adoration and glory of Christ! I do so both a someone who once aspired to be a writer and as a pastor who wants good things for the precious sheep Christ has placed under my care.

April seems like a good month to me for such a project.

It alliterates with Adoration. I like alliteration. I am a preacher, after all.

It’s also on the other end of the year from November. Instead of Fall coming to its end and darkness looming, Spring is arriving with light and brightness and warmth.

And with Spring, comes Easter. Easter isn’t always in April, but it often isn’t far off either. The season surrounding Easter feels like a natural and good time to meditate upon the loveliness of Christ as part of our personal piety. It is far better than being distracted by bunnies and even chocolate. And that’s true for those of you who observe liturgical seasons that hinges on Easter, and for the continental Reformed who honor the dominical holidays, and for us Lord’s Day-loving regulative-principle Presbyterians.

It is always a good time to behold by faith the resurrected, risen, seated, soon-returning Lord Jesus Christ.

For one month a year, I want to challenge myself to a month of posts that exalt Jesus. I’m not sure what I’ll do the other 11 months of the year. But my prayer to the Lord is that I can lift my own gaze — and perhaps yours also — to the adoration of Christ.

I’m Nathan

Welcome to “Pleasing Meditations.” I’m a pastor who likes to write. Writing helps me think. My hope and heart with these blog posts is for the meditations of my heart and the words of my keyboard to be pleasing and acceptable to the Lord (Psalm 19:14, Psalm 104:34). I hope to clarify my own thinking, encourage the saints, edify the Church, and adore Christ.
